Insulin is a pancreatic hormone used for diabetes mellitus (type 1, type 2, gestational) and in acute settings such as DKA and hyperkalemia. Many preparations exist at concentrations of 100 and 500 units/mL (U-100, U-500). Diluted concentrations of 1 unit/mL or 10 units/mL may be necessary for smaller doses in neonates and infants.
