Dextrose (d-glucose) is the primary intravenous and oral carbohydrate used in neonates for treatment and prevention of hypoglycemia, as a component of parenteral nutrition, and as part of hyperkalemia treatment regimens. It is available in multiple IV concentrations (e.g., 5%, 10%, 20%, 25%, 50%) and as 40% dextrose buccal gel.
