Ophthalmic anticholinergic for mydriasis and cycloplegia before funduscopy. In neonates use 0.5% or less: 1–2 drops per eye 10–30 minutes before exam; may add 1 drop phenylephrine 2.5%. Apply pressure to lacrimal sac during and 2 minutes after instillation to minimize systemic absorption. Withhold feedings 4 hours after procedure.
